"Normality is a fine ideal for those who have no imagination." - Carl Jung Consider the above quotation. What does it mean to you? How does it relate to the ideas of the Romantics and Transcendentalists whom we have been discussing in class? What about you? Do you, as Thoreau suggested, hear the beat of a different drummer? Should you?

no one is normal everyone is different the only reason why people think other people are wierd is cuz they are fromed into a click with the same veiws and beleifs on someone else and are too stuck up to look for the good in people. i dont follow the beat of a different drummer i follow the pattern of my own footsteps
I believe everyone should be different, or hear the beat of their own drummer. But, I also have come to find that people that have a hard time being their own person try to be someone else. Everyone is different and that is all there is to it. Some people are just too afraid to show themselves.

I think this means to have imagination is to have fun and try new things. Everyone can't be normal. What is normal...is there such thing cause everything is different.
I believe I have my own beat. But i also believe that I can keep the beat with others too. When people are so different that they seclude themselves from others, I think that that is just looking for attention. Some naturally do their own beat but most just want attention. I like the quote becuase it is very true in that when you just copy off of others its stupid and annoying to those who you are copying.
I think to be normal in society is boring. I like to live positively and try new things and share my thoughts and creativity with others. Some think that if you aren't normal, then you need to change. I think we should all embrace our own way to enjoy life and share it with others. When we are truly happy, we are normal.
Normality is not bad everyone is normal with there own side of imagination. For you it could be cooking in a weird way or how you act. Your normal pretty much no matter you act. Imagination is though how the best things in life were invented.
means for those that dont know how to be different fit in fine with the rest of everyone. yes i hear things differently then others, and i have my own unique views, witch makes me see things different a lot of the time
To me, this quote means that people that are followers should be their own person. I don't see how this quote relates to the ideas of the romantics and transcendentalists whom we have been discussing in class. Me, personally, i follow the beat of my own drum. My drum is werid. I think weird is what makes us different though. I think people should follow the beat of their own drum because if everyone is alike it would be boring.

Once I was talking to someone about why they wanted to spend tons of $$ on name brand clothes? She said, "because no one wants to stand out and not be 'normal'." I laughed. I think that its sad that the "normal" thing is to be the same as every one else. I would like to consider myself as hearing a different beat of a drum. What is normal to someone may not be normal to others or the other way around. It all boils down to what others think of you; to the point that we will go as far to make ourselves unhappy & miserable. Yet on the other hand, if there were to many drum beats going then no one would hear their own. That why most go to the same beat. Yet on you third hand (if you had one) your beat could sound different but with others parts of their beats added. So their's both sides of the coin to consider.
I believe no one should settle for being normal and i think everyone should be as they feel and not let others influence them their whole life. Alot of people today become the people the hang out with and change just to fit in. Very Wrong! Everyone has an imagination no matter if they keep telling themselves they don't.
I believe this means that if you think you are normal then you have no imagingation and don't think outside the box. You think everything/everyone should be the same and do things the same. This relates to Romantics because you have to think about it and take it the way your mind interprets it. I believe that you should beat to your own drummer, but other people may beat to that drummer to, but just not everyone.
People just arent tolerant and accepting by nature. If something is differnt,or out of place to them, of course theyre going to judge and ridicule it. I think this is part of life and those that are truly happy with who they are will not be affected by the criticism. There will always be someone who doesn't like who you are or what your doing, so instead of trying to please everyone else, it's better to do what feels right to you as an individual.

what is normal??? i think that being normal (whatever it may be) is just being boring and lame. but being an individual. dont be a follower...be a leader. i believe that we all have our own drum with our own beat. however sometimes you get off the beat of you drum. so you try to find your own beat again by following another beat which is not your own. it is not always easy to say on the beat of you own drum. but when you find that beat that fits you best make sure u try very hard to stay on that beat

most of the people are diffrent and that is normal because they are individuals. not everybody is the same eventhoug if they're twins. evryone has diffent ideas,attitudes,believes,etc. being an individual is grat.
people who dont want to be noticed dont have any imagination because they dont know how to be different from everyone else and so they are boring.

i think its good to be a different person. To like different things than other people and it makes the world a better place. Being an individual is a good thing. i march to the beat of my own drum.
I believe that everyone should know themselves and follow what they want to. You cant be truely happy doing things that others enjoy and you dont. You need to find yourself and make that person happy in your own ways.

I believe that there can't be a "normal", because everyone isn't the same. I follow the beat to MY drum. I think everyone is different to be happy.
that everyone in the world is different and there is not one person exactly the same.everybody likes being there own individual self rather than looking walking talking acting the same as everyone else.
That ppl that have no imagination r never going to be individuals cuz they need someones els imagination to do something so they cant be their selves.
Yes i think that i am different but sometimes try to be the other to fit in with a group. but most of the time i just be my self.

i love this quote because boring people that dont like to have fun are normal. they just go with the flow of other plain old boring people. If you have an imagination life is waaaaay more exciting then just doing the basics. Have an awesome life!

I think not being like everyonne else is a good thing. People judge way too fast. Many people dont like someone just for the fact that theyre different from them. But if you actually take the time to get to know them before you decide you might actually have a different viewpoint on them then you would have before. And "normal" people dont accept non normal people. So im not a fan...

I think this quote is trying to tell me that we all just need to live our lives because sooner or later, we're all going to die. So, live your life to the fullest while you can. I also believe that it's trying to tell me that I just need to be me, not to worry about what others think.

i think that normal to me is something boring and bland. maybe if people werent so normal than people wouldnt all be the same. maybe people should stick out of the group and be a leader instead of a follower. i try to be a leader and be a different person. i wanna be something different that people never see. i think kthat this quote also means that you just need to live your life to the fullest. no matter what dont let anything get in your way..you only live once so live it while you can!!

Being "normal" is NO fun!! Everyone should be different and try and seperate themselves from everyone else. If you beat to a different drum, you are truly unique. The people that try to fit in are the ones that are missing out on everything.

This is a neat quote to me. For me, having a very vivid imagination, normality is not something I'm familiar with. All the poems and things we've been reading in class are somewhat of the same nature. It's different and you need to use your imagination to understand what point it is trying to get across.

I have no idea what the quotation means. I think its trying to say that we need to be our selfs. And to be a leader, not a follower.

This quote to me means that you should life your life how you want to and not to conform to the world just because you do something different. Everyone reacts tothe same situation differently and that doesn't make one right and the other wrong. It makes people more interesting when they do things differently, especially if they're not afraid.

I believe that everyone is different and unique in their own way. Weird is just the way you look at things. We in America look at other traditions and cultures in other countries, from the past and present, and think to ourselves that they are weird. But they could say the exact same thing about the things we do, the things we think are normal. I believe that culture is just simply a specific people hearing the same drum and the different cultures represent the different drum beats. I think everyone has the right to walk to the beat of their own drum and just because someone else’s beat is not the same as yours is not bad. I going to be honest, some things in this world are VERY weird to me. I believe that I am the drummer and I dance to my own drum. Yes, the beat of my drum might sound the same and might be similar to the beat of someone else’s because we are in the same click but I am me and no one else can copy my beat. I’m just me.
The quote to me means that you shouldnt conform to other people. Well, unless you cannot think or act for yourself. I honestly can say that in the past I followed other people and didnt speak for myself just because I didnt want people to judge me, however, I am kind of changing. I am becoming to care less and less of how people view me.
People with great imaginations and great minds are not normal to the majority of people who are just ordinary. I believe i do hear the beat of a different drum because I think on a totally different brain wave than others.
i think everyone should be happy to be themselves and not follow what others say or do but too many people are worried about what others are gonna say. this quote goes with our theme cause it is saying to be urself and dont let others influence you. i believe that i "march to the beat of my own drummer" because i speak my opinion whether you wanna hear or it not. i also say exactly whats on my mind. i feel that if people dont like me for me then its their problem not mine and if they wanna judge me then let them. i could care less if people like me or not because im NOT gonna change for anyone else. so i think that EVERYONE should be themselves and march to their own beat.

To me, this quote is telling me that if you have NO IMAGINATION...then it is hard for you to do things. Well, the readings to me from Thoreau REALLY confused me...so, I honestly have no clue what this is saying. I am really sorry
it relates well with the ideas romantics and transcendentalists because the two writing are all about expressing yourself. yes because i believe everyone should be thereselves and follow their own path.

i pretty much think normality is rediculas. if you think you have to go by what people say and think is right then your not living. if your not living then whats the point of being alive, nothing, exactly right. so therefore yes i think i do go to the beat of a different drummer. because i am my own person and i will never try to please people by changing my own ways.

I believe that you should be yourself. Because if everyone was the same the world would be very boring.
I think everyone should be themselves to a certian extent. Because if everyone is too different they're would be constent fighting.
I think that everybody should be theirself and not care if people don't like them for not being "what they want". That is what makes everyone unique. So just be yourself. The world would be lame and boring if everyone liked the same thing and acted the same.
To me,being different and who you are is the only thing that you have that defines yourself, that separates you from everybody else in the world. And lets just say i take the road less traveled.

The quotation may mean that if someone does not have a great imagination the normal things may seem cool to them. I dont really understand this. This relates because its talking about life and what not. I gueess at some points in my life I hear a different beat, I am not a regular joe.
It is saying that everyone in this world is different. I think that the picture is showing how one person isn't normal and has their own way of thinking and the rest of the people are go with the flow.
Not all people are the same, everyone is different. There are many different kinds of clicks. Highschool is rough these days because everyone is trying to fit in with the cool crowd instead of being themselves. No one is going to be exactly like another person, physically, emotionally, or any other way. People are different.

this quote is very clever. carl jung is saying that if you are normal then you have no immagination. this is very bold because the majority of people are indeed normal. as far as me, well im not exactly like everyone else. at least that what i get from everyone calling me odd but i like it. i dont ever have to have a complex about myself conforming or being too average. this quote relates really well to our subject because thats exactly what thoreau is trying to get across. as thoreau says, i march to the beat of a different drummer.
I like to think i am very different from other people. I do things to act different on purpose. Who wants to be the same as everyone else. That would suck major gorilla balls. I have a good imagination i like to go to my back yard and pretend i am a jedi knight and fight off the sith lord while just wearing tighty whities.

Every single person in the entire world marches to the beat of a different drummer. With the Romantics and Transcendentalists that we've been studying in class it talks about individualism and how everyone would like to have the chance to show people that they are different. In the world today you are being sold the line that everyone has to be the same. That we have to be what the world says. But I beg to differ, we were all created different but equal for a reason. I see absolutely no reason to go and change anything about that.
