Barbara De Angelis:
Living with integrity means:
Not settling for less than what you know you deserve in your relationships.
Asking for what you want and need from others.
Speaking your truth, even though it might create conflict or tension.
Behaving in ways that are in harmony with your personal values.
Making choices based on what you believe, and not what others believe.
Think about this quote and compare it to the situation in The Crucible. What do you think the accused should do? Lie and compromise their character to save their lives? Or hang with their names and integrity intact?

What i think the accussed should do is tell the truth and go with what you believe in. Who cares what other people think about your opinions and believes. Well, if I were in that situation I would lie to get out of geting hung or prosecuted. Nobody wants to die, they might say they do but they don't. Anyway, people nowadays would lie and blame it on anybody they can to get out of being in trouble.

Buy comparing this to the Crucible I think the accused should stick to their guns. If they believe what they are doing is right then they need to stay with it. Even though it would be hard to do the right thing and if they belive it then why not be hung for the right thing and buying with their names and integrity intact.
It is hard to say. Everyone wants to say oh be strong and die for what you believe in. But when the situation faces you straight in the face, it is hard to say what you would really do. I am pretty sure that I would rather die knowing exactly where I was going and that Heaven would be waiting for me. Life on Earth isn't worth it compared to eternal life in Heaven.
I would have done what giles corey did. I wouldnt have gave putnam what he wanted. I would have made the sacrifice for my family like giles did he was a fearsome brave man.
Giles Corey did the bravest thing, i would have lied to save my life or someones life close to mine. He did what he had to, to keep his land for his family. He worked his hour life to get good things and he doesnt want it just taken away for nothing. John Proctor is also brave because he is willing to die just becuase he doesnt want his name to be ruined and posted on the church door.
The accused should say whats truly in their heart and what they believe is true. Its better to die standing tall than to die on your knees.
Honestly, I think when it came down to it I think I would lie and say i did it. I couldn't deal with the thought of hanging or being stoned to death. As much as i would like to say that I would be corageous and do the right think, and tell the truth deep down I know that i would not be able to be hung, or killed in such an awful way.
i think it is very wrong of the accused to just confess even though they know they didnt commit the crime. and to make matters even worse they give other names of people who didnt do anything just because they are asked to!!! thats crazy. you should always just tell the truth no matter the consequence because if u lie the consequences may be greater. i would die with my pride and integrity!

I believe that if they are in fact innocent then they should be hung with their names and integrity intact. If telling the truth means that you are going to die, then so be it. At least you know that you died and honest person, instead of living knowing that your faulty and have no integrity. You will lose who you are as a person, but at least you will be alive....NOT! You may be alive physically, but you would be a coward.
I Would not confess to it because if you were a real christian you would not have to worry about death. Also hanging is not a horrible way to die because it would be a quick death.
there is always a difference in what you should do and what you will do. if anyone really stood for what they believed in then they would get hanged and therefore they can take that to their grave but if they lie they can get out of it therefore makeing them a coward and not a truthful person.
i think this quote has to do with the book The Crusible. People when they had the choise to live and go to jail if they say their not a witch or to get hung if they say they are one. By this people were not telling the truth. I strongly believe they should of told the complete truth even if they would have got hung because their being honest to others and theirself.Your should always show your character and stand up for your self, be a stronger mind person.
LOVE
i thik u should always speak the truth and not lie bcause if you do someone else could actually said the truth and then u could be on lots of trouble.so you just say the truth and admit what u said
Its hard to say what i think they should have done. I think what john putnam did was very noble because yes he wanted to live, but he ended up changing his mind because he would rather keep his name holy than to taint it in any way.
I think you should follow what you believe in and die with your integrity. dont let those who are against you have that joy humiliating you. die with your pride and stand strong against those who have hate.
I think that they should not stoop down to those who accused them's level. They should hang and not throw away their good character to save their lives. Is this fair at all HELL NO but you are not given a choice.
i think you should say wht really happen and how it was. Just say the truth and assum the consecuenses couse that was what u should thought about b4 doing some

I believe that the accused should stick to what they believe in. To be true to oneself, someone must not compromise what they believe in. Someone should never change thier beliefs to make another person happy. A person believes in the things that they do for a reason, and the only reason to change that is if it's truly what you believe.
i feel that tehy should keep there intergrity intact even if it means dying for it because if you allow them to win or have the upper hand, if something were to happen and you were let free if you were to falter with the truth you would feel bad because others gave there life for there integrity...
I think the brave and honest thing would be to not compromise their character and tell the truth. Even though they might die, they could do the right thing, even if the court wasnt doing the right thing.
I think the accused should say what they think is right. If they are innocent then that is what they should go with, even if they have to take it to their grave. But if you value your life then you should lie to live. It is a double-edged sword.
The accused aren't really lying if they say they did witchcraft. If all of them say that the girls are fake everyone will believe them. They know what the truth is what does is matter what other people think.
hmm...thats a tough question. Of course everyone would say that they would stand up for what they believed in and not give in. But when your faced with death i think that would cause you to think differently. Its just comforting knowing that I'm gonna be with Jesus, no matter what.
i think any modern day person would lie to get out of it, but based on the quote and my own beliefs, i think the accused should hang with their integrity intact.

I would have hung with my integrity because I would know that I am innocent and thats all that would have mattered...
I think the accused should tell the truth. I think that when you tell the truth your consequences are less worse. When you lie you might even get more in trouble. I think the accused should follow their insticts and not listen to others. Follow your heart.

What i think the accussed should tell the truth and go with what they believe in. Who cares what other people think about your opinions and believes. If i was living in the days of the crucible, i would probably lie and make sure i had a good stroy so i didn't get hanged!
It must be very hard for the accused to tell the truth, because telling the truth means in this cause to die. But it also means that you can die, knowing that you didn't make a mistake and deserve to come to Heaven. It's a hard decision but I am pretty sure that people who are strong in what they believe would choose to tell the truth and would not have to be scared about what happens after death.
Bina
i think the accused sould tell the truth because u dont want to have bad karma wen u pass
-anze_kopitar
i would get hung instead of lie..because if you did the crime you have to deal with the consequences...
i think that the acussed should do what they belive it's right to do and they belive in because if they don't do it they would have to let their conciense live with what they choose to do.
What I think the accused should do is, tell the truth and say what you gotta say. It does not and should not matter what other people think. You are the only YOU! No body can take that away from you. Just because someone thinks you are different than them, does not mean you have to change for them. YOU BE WHO YOU WANT TO BE!!!
To be honest with you i don't know what i would do if i was in the same situation as the accused because in a way i would want to lie just so i wouldn't get die, but also i would want to speak the truth so that i wouldn't die a liar. I think in this case i probably would lie just because it would be a stupid thing to die over. I don't know though thats just my own opinion.
Lover
basically i think you should always go and say what you believe in if you strongly believe in it.

In the situation of the crucible related to the quote i would not know which side to go on so it is at a standstill. I say this, because from the meaning of integrity the girls should lie and live for their "deserved" lives. On the other hand the girls should speak truth and be hanged due to admitting for what they know is wrong.
i would lie so that i could still be alive. no matter what if i did get hung, i would still have a bad reputation because i was accused of something bad.
I dont think that proctor should have sold himself out he should keep his dignity
I think they should tell the truth and hang with integrity. In our society everything depends on what your reputation is like. It determines whether people like you or not, whether people percieve you as a "good person". I think the integrity is a very important character trait and everyone shuold strive to have integrity.
brainyblonde92
This is not an easy question for me. My first thought is that yes, the smart thing to do would be to confess and save your life, no harm done. After some thought though, ive come to realize that it is in fact ruining your integrity and contributing to the problem. so if it were me i would hope i would be brave enough die for what i believe in but its almost impossible to say without being in that situation.
CONDOR
I believe that the accused should tell the truth and hang knowing that they did the right thing. To be very honest I don't know if I could do that because that would be so hard to do. But I know that hanging and having integrity would be the right thing to do.
well, i would have to say that those girls should definately just tell the truth. Even though they might be hung for it, that has to be a risk they are willing to take. Because you dont always get what you want. i also really hate abigail so i would want her to die.
deadhead
haaaaa! Love the honesty, deadhead! :)
I think that would be a very hard decision to make. Having done nothing wrong and dieing for it? I also believe that many of them made the right decision by doing that. I think its always best to tell the truth no matter the consequences.
I Love Chelsea
well, it would be easy to say to keep your integrity and to be honest, but if i were the one being accused, i would probibly lie to save my own life. It would be the right thing to do if you did what you belive in though.
--CDEDBDdiver
I think it would depend on the persons character, for how they would react to the situation of being accused of being hung for witchcraft. Some people will go along with it to save their lives by confessing, while others like Proctor want to keep his last name good. So he just died knowing that he would go to heaven.
I would have done what Giles Corey did. Don't lie but die a christian.
I think the accused should lie to save themselves, because if you know you are innocent then so does god. So in the end he can forgive you if you ask for his forgiveness.
I think the accused should lie so the can save ther lives if they hang its not going to chang anyting for them
The accused should tell the truth even though it will not get them anywhere but hung. If they tell the truth they will die for being honest, if they lie they will have to name names to stay alive and keep not only their land and their freedom but also their name. If they decide to pleade not guilty or not innocent then they will be pressed to death. So you see the dalima they are faced with. But if they would all get together and use a little common sense then they could all live and keep everything they have.
godstrackgirl91
I believe that this quote relates to the Crucible in the aspect of John Proctor. Elizabeth had convinced him to lie and sign the contract saying that he was involved with witchcraft in order for him to stay alive. However, what he didn't know what that the contract was going to be posted on the doors in the church for the whole town to see. I believe John did the right thing, in confessing and telling the town that he was not involved in witchery. Hanging for what he belived in and what was true is the best thing he could have done.

John Proctor is the exact definition of "Integrity;" At least the defintion according to De Angelis. Despite what Hale and Danforth were telling him to do, Proctor chose to be honest. He knew that dying was better than living a life that was a lie. He knew the truth, as did everyone else, yet he did what he knew he needed to do to let there be peace.
-texas2010
well honestly id probably revolt against the court like the neighboring town did. but if i had to chose one i think i would have died with my integrity than to give into their crazyness and maybe they would soon realize how stupid it is and maybe they would stop.
....nikeboy...
In the crucible the characters should have done what they felt was right without thinking of what they could have done and what the others would think smart if they felt they need to be silante and hang to keep thier pride then that is thier choice and if they thought they would rather live and lie then that is thier choice too.
silverfish91
in the crucible nobody spoke there mind when they thought the girls were lieing
guardgirl1220
i mean if the accused is really that worried about what jesus will do if they lie then yeah i guess thats not what they should do even if they are going to lose their life. it really just depends on how they think about that stuff. i know i would to stay alive.
i think that they should go with what they believe in i mean as long as they know that they will be happy and if they die because of honesty then they can be happy in the next life or whatever.
chicka09
I think they should have done exactly what they did because they showed there honesty and true character.
cheer 2010
I think if they really cared about their character they should save their names and hang. But if they really wanted to live they should accept the fact that they wont have a good name anymore
