I think this is just common knowledge if you ask me. When someone says they will do something you expect them to do it. If you need a ride to work and someone says they will pick you up at 3. If they dont show your in trouble. If you knew they wouldn't show up or something you could arrange it with something else. It has happened to me thats where I got the topic idea.
You shouldn't make promises you can't keep. Nothing good comes out of that. It only leaves people diasapointed. Everyone has done it, but you should try not to.
i dont relly understand this quote but i think its talking about someone who made a promise and never kept it but tried to act like he relly promised
Well me myself i can kind of relate to this quote because i think that it deals with everday life people make promises they cant keep, and some people want to believe it. Yes it does make a difference because people believe you and they want it to be true, It's the same in life today. It is that way everyday so.. Nothing to different.

well i think this quote means that if people cant keep promises then they shouldnt know them.people should learn who there true friends are in life and realize that its hard to find a true friend that would blab your secrets or wont break your promises.
I believe its better to not make the promise in the first place if you know you cant keep it. Breaking a promise gives peoples hopes up and lets them down. So I believe not making a promise at all would be bettter.
everybody makes mistakes, and they also deserve a second chance, but dont trust just anybody
im not sure who little pine is... but i think that this quote is very true, as it probably applies to everybody elses life as well. i do agree, but tough love little pine.... sometimes you dont get what you want
i agree with this quote very much. trust is a huge thing to me. when i first meet someone they gain my trust but if they do something to lose it...it will be much harder for me to gain my trust back in you. this quote has always and will always apply to people when it comes to making and breaking promises. if there is even a chance that you will not be able to keep or follow through with your promise then here is a great tip: dont promise! its like i would rather not depend on someone for something than have them completely go against their word. we all should learn from this...dont make promises that u cant keep...plain and simple
I say the same thing. I would rather someone not promise me something than promise me something and not do it. I never promise anyone anything and if i do than i will keep it!
I think it's better if you dont make a promise to somebody and not do it cause it's just retarded when you say that you will do something and not do it. It's disrespectful. It's just better if you dont have to put that burden on yourself and when you dont follow through with the promise you feel like a jerk. so if you say you will do it, then do it.
if you make a promise...keep it. sure we are human and we make mistakes but its not right to give someone your word if you are not willing to keep it. it is very hard to find someone you can truly trust in todays society. we should all learn how to not say promise if we cant keep it, and if we do say promise, keep it.
I think it means that if you can't back up what u say hen try not to say anything. It doesn't show good of you if you talk a lot but u can't back up anything you say. Keep your promises, I mean its understandable if something comes up thats unavoidable but if you aren't 100% sure you can do something don't say you promise that you will.
native americans feared the white mans promises to take there lands, lives, and culture. there could of been small diffrences that would probaly only add up over time to benifit the native culture at that time, like relocating, or going into hideing. today native american cultures, and tribes are protected instead of destroyed. if my life was the 1 in question i would move on to some place new, were i could be free.
I think the quote is bascially saying not to promise to do something you cant or wont do. You make people more upset by breaking your promises rather than just saying you cannot do the favor. Thats how I feel about it.
I think that the quotation is saying if you make a promise you need to do it and not forget about it i dont know if i would made a difference. If it was my life i the question i would make difference.
To me this quotation is talking about making promises and keeping them or doing them as "promised". If you know that you can not keep a promise, then don't make it. But at the same time, all people make mistakes and you could have really thought that you could keep it, but ending up somewhere down the line messing it up. It's human nature and everyone has broken a promise sometime or another. Just be careful about what you promise and it should be fine.
Everyone has been lied to, and has in returned lied to someone else. It very much like the golden rule. If you want people to be honest with you, dont lie to them. Live an honest life, and let your conscience have say once in a while.

I think this quotation means dont make the promises that you cant keep. In the native american stories it would have made a difference. For example when the wolf told buffalo bull he would not eat the sheep when he did. In the end starving himself. Also today it would have got us to the point of complete honesty if eveyone followed it. Finally if it was in my life I would never be in trouble lol.

I think this quote it talking about keeping and breaking your promises.I think it would have made a difference if the promise was kept.I dont think it changes the meaning any today.I always try to keep my promises so this does not really apply to me.
this quote is saying that if you can't keep a promise, you shouldn't make it. it's worse to make a promise and not follow through with it than to not make one in the first place--don't go back on your word.

I think this quote means that if you make a promise you have to keep it.You can't tell anyone. I think it wouldn't have made a difference. Today, i don't think it would have made have difference either. I belive not making a promise in the first place would be best.
betchimthebombliketictic
I think this saying is true. It wold go for the Native Americans but also into todays society.

Yes i think it would have made a difference. Today i think that people make promises that they dont mean or intend to keep so i think people shouldnt make promises unless they want to keep them.
I would definately rather someone tell me. If they're going to do something bad just tell me so that im not surprised. I would be able to handle it much better that way. It would have helped the indians if the white people hadnt lied because they could have gotten prepared.
This is pretty simple to explain. No one would want promises made to them, and never fulfilled. They would rather have never been promised to. And this would stay the same through any amount of time. And if this were my life in question then I would have never been promised to. As opposed to being let down.
The quotation is talking about keeping promises you make. If you always try your best to keep the promises you make to people, they will rely on and trust you. But if you don't keep promises you are known as unreliable and untrustworthy. The meaning of this quote would be same, but the capacity would be different. People one hundred years ago were probably more trustworthy than they are in present time, and one hundred years from now we could only imagine what people will be like.
I think that what this entry is saying is true. If someone tells you they are going to do something, you would probably expect them to do it....right? It's just like if you are going to tell someone you will pick them up at 8, and you don't, well then they will most likely be mad at you.
"I would have been better pleased if you had never made such promises than that you should have made them and not performed them. . ." --Shinguaconse ("Little Pine")
I think the quotation means, if you make a promise, follow through with it.If you aren't gonna follow through with it, then dont make promises. No, no matter what race you are, you shouldnt make promises you cant keep, it follows through until today!
This reminds me of the story about the deer woman we read about. The victim is always one that has made a promise to be faithful but leaves their wife for the woman. This quotation is saying you are better off not to take on something u dont know u can follow through with then to promise something, not follow through, and cause disappointment.

it is better for you to not make a promise at all than to make it and not complete it. if you dont make a promise then there wont be anything expected from you. so if you make a promise and dont do it then that makes your word worthless.
This quote kinda tells about how you need to keep the promises you make. once you break a promise to someone it automatically, by human nature, makes that person not trust you as much. i know that once a promise is broken over and over again my trust towards that person goes down. trust is a very big thing to me

Making a Promise and not keeping it is basically lying. When you tell someone you will do something, whether it for them or someone else and you don't commit to it and do it. You lied to that person. The native americans had a strong sense of trust and honor and this would have been frowned upon.
what ever happens, happens if its your time to go, then its your time to go
I agree with this qoute 100%. Trust is a very big part in life. If you promise as certain person that you will do something you should do everything in your power to come through. And if you can't then have the courtesy to tell them.
I definitely agree with this quote. I believe that trust is a huge part of my life. I believe that trust is the key to many things... Like relationships.

I think that means that do not make promises that you can't keep. This also can make a difference in your life and other people's lives. If you keep promises then people will trust you more.
I think it means to not say you’re going to do something and know you won’t and let them down and just say in the beginning you can't do something.
Now a lot of people keep making promises they can't keep but they make them anyways. The people that are promised those things that the other people know can't keep them are hurt most of the time or get their hopes rally high and then they can't belive it. I have been made promises like that n I get rally disappointed.
I can relate to this quote because my older sister would always tell me that she would take me to school or drive me to practice. She almost never did. I started getting really mad at her..and i told her that she might as well not even tell me that she would take me anywhere if she wasn't going to do it.

This quote is takling about how the white people said that they would not attack and make the Indians move, but instead they lied and did it anyways.I totally agree with the way the Indian that said this. If someone told me that they were going to do something or not and did the complete opposite, I would be just as angry.
It means that you shouldnt promise one thing and then go against your word and not fo what you promised. If oyu promise someone something then you need to stick to your word. It doesn't just hurt the person, it hurts you also.
I think that this also should be applied to more than just promises. for example, if you know that you are responsible for something, like taking your sister to early morning band, and you know you have to do it, but you stay up and watch the matrix untill 1 in the morning. then when morning comes and you have to get up, you are too tired and blame it on something else, like soccer practice (which is only 2 hours long!!). so you dont take her and she gets in a lot of trouble. You knew you had to do it but you were too irresponsible to actually do it.

This qoute basically describes the way i was raised. If i was told to get something done i got it done. But you can't always depend on other people if you want something done. So you usually end up doing it yourself.
I think that the quote means that the settlers made promises to the native americans about land. And they didn't come through with the promises. The natives would have rather them not given them the hope if they were not gonna come through with it.
This quotation kinda speaks for its self. If you make a promise then you should keep it. And yes it does make a difference either way, a promise is a vow to that person and if you do not keep it you are no better than a thief. If it was my live in question I would really like to have someone promise me that I would be ok.
I can relate to this quote very well. I believe the quotation means if you are going to commit to something then stick with it. It would be much better to not get someones hopes up and when something doesnt work out, let them down.
I think the quote means that we shouldn't make promises that we can't keep. Yes, it makes a difference because if we make promises, we should keep them. It is the same today as it has always been. I personally do not make promises, EVER. That is a chioce of mine. I don't choose to promise things because I never know if I can keep that promise one hundred percent. I stopped promising about three years ago and I do not regret it.
just do not make promises you cant keep its that simple
