This is a very good and inspiring quote. My thoughts are this: Someone and I'm sure many people are one maybe two of these things. But to be all of them would be the tough part. Life is hard and at times it's hard to learn from other people, "govern our passions", and be content. I think we could all learn a lot from this quote. Take it to heart people and learn from it!
I agree with his quote, especailly with the first line. "Who is wise? He that learns from every one." People that do not learn from other people are ignorant. Everyone has to learn from someone, whether it may be a lesson from a mistake, or simply how to read.
To me, the wisest are those that listen.
i think its kind of true. if you are wise then you have learned form everyone but you cant do that
I dont think the meaning has changed must since. I think a wise person has experienced alot and learned alot about life. Theres very few wise people, but people look on them for guidance. Powerful people have more authority and are looked upon by others also. But they still could be foolish and still be powerful. But less people will look to them as powerful. People who have alot of money sometimes might not be as happy as someone who is poor. Because the poor person might have caring people in their lives. And rich person may not, and all they have is money.
yes i agree with what he says very much. And the meaning is still the same as it would have been 200 years ago. being rich may seem like it means alot to some but money will never buy you happiness...only things to make you happy for a short while. being powerful means that people look upon you yo make decisions for them. u are a leader for those below you. being powerful and rich will always come to an end. where as being wise is a constent thing. no one becomes wise on there own, they must learn/ listen to others to become wise. we all should strive to do this.
These virtues seem to be confused a lot. Even though I believe wisdom is a great virtue, I don't believe the wise necessarily (and usually don't) learn from every One; I believe that the wise learn from the Only One (God). It does indeed require great power to control one's passions. Lastly, He who is content is indeed rich in blessings, but one can't necessarily be judged as not being virtuous; one may have many reasons why not to be content.
Even though these virtues are confused a lot, they seem to be confused much more often now than they used to be, as people have started losing their faith in virtue.
Yes I will have to agree with Ben on this one. I do think someone can be rich, wise and powerful... but I dont think someone can be rich, powerful, and wise and not be a good person. Like not be rude about it in any ways.
Being wise, rich, and powerful means to me that there is going to be another Hitler. I just can not see someone with all of those traits and not being a big headed person.
I agree with what he says. I don't think it's meaning has changed any over the last 200 hundred years.
To me, a rich person always wants more and more! They are never satisfied even though they have money.
The powerful are those who control everything. Powerful people also benefit mainly themselves.
In my opinion being wise is being intelligent and very careful.

I agree with everything that was said in the quote but I do agree with a majority of it.I think the meaning has changed over the years based on the fact that those words would mean something entirly different to someone in the 1700s.Being wise, powerful, and rich means you have set high standards for your sell, and you have an obligation to your surrounding community to set a good example for them to follow.
I do agree for the most part. Although he that is rich is not always content. This quote still holds the truth for today. I believe that if you are wise you do learn from everyone and your and their experiences. When you are powerful you control and do govern passions. If you are rich, i believe that you are content to and extent, but usually too caught up with material things.
peopl are always wanting more and if someone has everything they dont listen to anyone else
I have to agree with Mr.Ben,yet have to disagree. I agree because how do the best learn: from evryone! But today we learn too much from each other. Some we need to learn, others we do not. Today being wize means that you can do any thing smart or good, then why do we all ways do the stupid thing? Becase we want to be cool. When those that are powerful are those who governs their passions, then why do the powerful of today not govern their passions? Because the way of being powerfull of today is those who are the rich who are not content. Thats why Ben said at the end, "Who is that? Nobody." None can learn all from everyone, none can govern his passions, and none is content. BEN KNEW THAT!! And that is his point.
The first part of this quote would teach everyone a lesson. I learn from other peoples mistakes and listen to what the tell me. If you don't do that you aren't going to get very far. But you also have to do some living and learning for yourself.
This is a great quote. it shows a lot about human nature and what makes a person who they are. I agree with Franklin for the most part. I do think it is possible to be wise and powerful in the sense that he is adressing them, but i agree that no one is rich. No matter what we have, how lucky we are, we will always want and strive for something more, its just part of being human.
I believe that this quote is very much true.I think that the meaning has changed over in the last 200 years.Being wise, rich and powerful is something you can have or be.
Rich people tend to want more and more money and then they are greedy people that are selfish and only care about themselves.
Powerful people sometimes like to take control and be a very foolish.
Being wise is the best thing a person can have in life.If you are wise you seem to care about others in life instead of thinking about yourself. Also a wise person always would think out things throughly.
Well i think that our attitudes can change if you see a good potential in any given situation, because if that was the case you wouldn't think negative about everything, You would be a nicer better person in everything you do. For instance like washing the dishes look at it this way yes your going to wash the dishes but it could be fun you could sing or something while your doing it, you can make anything fun if you set your mind to it.
Lover
I agree with what Benjamin Franklin said. I personally don't relly know if it has changed i guess it would depend on who you are. Being wise, powerful, and rich means to be strong minded, believe in yourself, and having many things in perople in their life.
LOVE
Yes I do agree with him. Yes i do think the meaning has changed alot in the past two hundred years. being wise to me is knowing how to handel situations well. Being powerful means being able to lead people and them want to follow or at least listen to what you say. Being rich to me means that you have family and friends that love you and want to spend time with you.
I do agree with this quote because it's unlike what a lot of people are like today. I think the meaning has stayed the same but, theres so many more things that people hold onto now thinking that they are so high and mighty when in reality they have nothing. Being wise and powerful and rich is exactly what Benjamin Franklin said in his quote. I like this quote a lot.
From the beggining he means you can only become wise if you learn from the people around you. Others mistakes can become a lesson. When he asks who is powerful. He means you can only accomplish your goals with emotions and personal feelings in your way. By who is rich means not about how much money you have but if you have all you want then you are rich in that way. Lastly he says no one can be all three things. If your lucky maybe one but not all. W are imperfect.
I think th only way people are wise is if you learn from people around you and their mistakes. He that is rich in other things besidesmoney are the only people that can be truly happy. Noboday is somebody and everyone is somebody. People think that they have a high position in the world today when really they are just like everyone else. All of us are the same and nobody is better than someboday else. Things have changed because there is alot more pride now.
I do agree with what Benjamin Franklin said in this quote. Yes, i do believe that the meaning of this quote has changed in the last two hundred years. Being wise means you have alot of knowledge of things, and you know the difference between right and wrong. Being powerful means that you are in control and you know what you are doing. Being rich, not only means that you have alot of money, but it also could mean that you are rich in love. Being rich depends how you interpret it.
this quote really makes you think about life itself..it is so true, yet so sad. we are so blind in wanting everything, such as all the money you can get, when we realize that money doesn't really make you content, although it might make you happy temporarily.
i very much agree with this quote. benjamin franklin is saying that all of the three things are good, but that no one could possibly do them all.

Well when you say learn from everyone you are basically saying to never stop learning and that is one of the most important lessons in life. Socrates once said" true wisdom is knowing you know nothing." Never stop learning is a very important lesson. Controlling your emotions makes you have power, but not like you think. You have power over yourself. With these days no one person is ever content with what they have no matter what. There is always something else that you can have, get, or get more money.
I agree with the quote completely. Because someone who learns from everyone will know things from all walks of life. So i agree with the quote.
in this quote ben franklin explains and describes what he believes each word means. In my opinion he is corrrect. However, in the world today, being powerful and rich mean completely different things. and from his definitions, he says that nobody can be all of these things. powerful, wise, and rich. ben franklin was very wise. and i agree with him.
meow.
Yes I have to agree with this quote. The meaning has changed some what because today these are all important factors intodays life, that makes people people. Being rich and powerful to me means that u have everything u ever want and need to live.
yes, i would have to say i agree with this quote. These are all important things in life. It makes people happy and it makes them who they are. being wise means that you are smart and have made mistakes and watched other people make mistakes and learning from them. Being rich and powerful means that you have done good with your life, but doesn't mean you are happy always. You could still be missing things in your life that money and power can not buy.
I do agree with what he has to say. Some of it has changed cause anybody can be rich. Being wise to me means you can learn from your mistakes. To me being powerful means that you are well aware of ur surroundings. And being rich to me means that you don't have to money but have love from others.
Yes i do agree with what he says, and no i do not think it's meaning has changed over the past few years i think it's meaning is still the same. Being wise is a great thing i think because if your wise you make wise decisions, i think being powerful is also another great thing because if your powerful you would probablly know how to say no, but rich to me means so many different things theres being rich with money which i could careless about because money doesnt make you happy but theres also rich in happiness and love which i think is great. lover
Benjamin Franklin is saying that no one is perfect. Franklin Being wise to me means that you take take criticism without being up tight and judgemantal. I do not think that this quote has changed over the last 200 years either. Powerful to me means that you take be a leader and have control but not use it against people.
This quote is right, people become wise when they learn from others because if they make mistake the next time they will know what not to do. I also would be that they learn from their mistakes too.

i think ben is right, and i dont think this has changed over the last 200 years. people dont take the time to learn from other people because they assume that they can do it better. they dont try to govern their passions, for example, if they are angry, they take it out on someone, or when something goes wrong they blame it on someone else. and nobody is content with what they have. i can admit that im guilty of this too, but people alway want more. it goes along with what we have been learning in class, the indians died because that spaniards wanted more land, more gold, more, more more. i dont think we can find anyone today, or 200 years ago for that matter, that has all 3 of these traits. i think being wise, powerful, and rich is over rated.
i think that refers to how benjamin franklin felt like when he wrote this and he was very content
well... im gonna have to say that this does not really make sense to me at all, but it definately sounds pretty cool. other than that i dont really know, but i guess i agree
People think that they are so much better than every one else but in reality everyone is the same. I think Ben is right, because in the past 200 years nothing really has changed becasue people are still taking people for granted. He that is powerful is rich with passions, with family and friends. He who is rich is not necessarily money rich but rich in love. Everyone is somebody even if they think they dont belong.
I agree with Mr. Ben:~) Its meaning has not changed in the past two hundred years people still do not possess those qualities. He who is rich is not necessarily rich in wealth but rich in love and family. Those who are powerful are those who share. He who knows all still asks questions.
I agree that writing does help people sort out their thoughts and stuff but i also beleive that talking to people helps too well at least thats what helps me. THrough writing you can describe your thoughts myabe even better than if you were talking about it.
I completely agree with what he says. I think that this meaning has somewhat changed overtime because even though people know that he who is wise learns from everyone, however, people only learn from who they choose to learn from. Which then leaves the true part of the quote since no one learns from everyone that means no one is content, wise, powerful and rich for those purposes.
Anyone who can accomplish these three things, would have basically fulfilled the meaning to life. But these three things would be hard for anyone to accomplish. With things like greed, selfishness, and the lust for power. Nobody in this time era would settle this.
yes, i agree with what this quote says. No i dont think this has changed over the last 200 years because government may change and industries change, but people's beliefs stay the same. Being wise, powerful, and rich to me, means being high and might and bold in the society.
yes, if you are smart you dont have to learn from your own mistakes. you have to be able to control your feelings in order for you to be truely powerful, and being rich has more meaning than just money.
i agree with half of it. i think people can be rich with being content. or rich in their beliefs. i think the whole quote can go together.

I do Not agree with what he says. I think he never even had the meaning right. Being wise means to me that you know how to handle things well. BEing powerful means having power and contoling people r having power over them. And rich means you have alot of money.
I agree with him. I think it still applies.
I totally agree with what Nenjamin Franklin said in this quote. Most people these days do not seem to look to others for knowledge, people that have power do not seem to govern from their passions, but their peers expectations. People in todays society that are rich are never content and always want want want! So yes agree with him that there is no one that is like that in on society today.
I do agree with this quote! Being wise, powerful, and rich doesn't mean everything. As long as you know who you are..then you should be content with whatever you have!

I do agree with what Ben Franklin says but only to a certain degree. I agree with the fact that he says "he that learns from everyone", for the belief of all around knowlege. Then though I disagree, because he states "who is powerful". You do not have to be powerful to be wise. The rest I agree with besides having to be rich. It is a mixed emotion quote in my mind.

yes i agree wiht this quote. yea i tink that the meaning has changed any over the last two hundred yes
I think good B. Franklin was defining his meaning of wise, powerful, and rich. Many people think of them as being wealthy, strong or knowledgeable and that is why he says "who is that? nobody" I believe what he says is very true. Rich in happiness is much better then having money.
